Good Ole United States of America

Well, I have been in the Good Ole United States of America for just over a week. I have enjoyed entrancing campfires, visits with family, fabulous food with even better friends, a considerable amount of reading, and a schedule that just doesn't make sense! I am looking forward to a few little trips and a quite a bit of shopping.

It's good to be home for a while...

Lucky Dog (and girl)!

I am happy to report that my georgous pooch was returned for a reward on Friday.

I made a mad dash to Belmopan Saturday morning to confirm it was him before leaving for the States. He is starting to get an eye infection in his right eye again. He also lost about every pound that I had put on him in the 6 days he was missing. He was walking gingerly; quite obviously had been pounding the pavement to find me. Carlos was found near the office- Chanda and my first destination the day he disappeared. He was as happy to see me as I was to see him I think. To prevent the incident from occuring again I bought: a chain to go around the gate- he had pushed it open even though it had been locked; a 40' long cable to hang between trees, added a pully; a 20' long cable to attach to the pully and dog; a dog house; and a monster size bag of dog food.

It nearly broke my heart to leave, but I feel confident that he will be there when I return. In the mean time I will enjoy my time at home and catch up with friends and family.

Good Dog Carlos...

Well, things aren't going so well. Carlos and I moved from San Pedro on Thursday and we have been trying to adjust. It was chaos but that was to be expected. He was fabulous during the whole thing. He was to live outside in Belmopan so I had left him outside for a few hours at a time. Yesterday Chanda and I ran errands for a few hours. When we returned the gate was wide open and Carlos was nowhere to be found. It has been 24 hours now and I have ridden down roads and walked more than I really had the energy for but I still haven't found him. I know the reason he broke open the gate was he was trying to find me. Now I have to hope that he finds his way back. I am leaving in the morning to finish some things up at the reserve. I hate that I am leaving, not knowing where he is. I have hope, but I am not really expecting his return. He is a beautiful dog. Nearly full blood rottweiler if not full. He is strong and I just hope that if he never is able to return that he is taken in by a good family.

Anyway, finally have a picture taken just before leaving San Pedro...

The Ball IS Rolling!

Currently I am rather excited about the 7pm meeting tonight. It started only about 30 minutes late! It would have only been 6 minutes late except the Mayor and Minister had an emergency meeting. And all but ONE person showed up who was supposed to. He probably would have except we didn't call him today as a reminder. The list included our Mayor, Minister of Tourism, 8 of the 10 current Neighborhood Watch presidents (one is out of the country). We discussed a pilot program and having an answer from the powers that be in one week! We have been attempting to get street names posted for months. Tomorrow some of us will go in to work on the list of streets so they can be processed! Some lights in more dangerous areas have been installed, bulbs replaced. Some police officers that graduated from the academy a month ago caught an undesirable, recovered stolen goods, and followed through to help get him prosecuted this week! Really it is an exciting time to be working with this program, unfortunately my time with it will be limited in the near future. I will enjoy it while I can though!
